Lannas (Harry) Schrock was born in Ohio and married Francess Williams, a full-blooded Choctaw in 1898. They moved to Silver City, later when the new town of Tuttle was created, they moved to Frances’ allotment. Harry operated a ferry crossing over the South Canadian River to the east of Silver City.

The Schrock crossing was used by the cattle on the Chisholm trail unless the river was high. Then the river could be a wall of water 12 feet deep. When that happened, cattle drivers would detour to Pikey’s Crossing.

Thelma “Chincie” Ross remembers Fourth of July celebrations at the Schrock ferry. Schrock had a big celebration. everyone would take their lunch and ride the ferry. Though they had to go through Bowman’s barnyard to get to the ferry!

Another crossing was operated for a time near Silver City named the old Bond Crossing, on the Bond ranch, was located further west near the present-day location of Braum’s dairy.
